How do we receive Spiritual Gifts?

1.  Spiritual gifts are granted by the Spirit according to God's purpose.  When the Spirit of God
takes p residence within us,  He manifests himself in different ways and at different times.
Spiritual gifts are one of the ways through which He manifests himself so that we may fulfill God's destiny for our lives.

2.  You may pray for spiritual gifts and ask others to pray you might receive the gift you desire, while being faithful in the use of those you have already received.  The Spirit will determine whether or not to impart that gift.  In the New Testaments, gifts were often imparted when spiritual leaders laid hands on others and prayed for God to impart needed gifts for ministry.     1 Cor. 14:13,    Matthew 25:21    Luke 16:10-12

The New Testament lists a number of spiritual gifts in several texts.  These are mostly likely a representative list rather than an exhaustive list of spiritual gifts.

Romans 12:6-8    1 Cor  12-14,  Ephesians 4:11-13     1 Peter 4:9-11

Summary.
God has a plan or destiny for your life.  He has prepared "good works in advance" for you.  He has designed you with your destiny in mind.  He has created your "inmost being"  or temperament so that you will be suited to fulfill the call he has placed on your life.  He has given you spiritual gifts and allowed you to undergo experiences that also prepare you for the road He has set before you.  It is up to you whether you will fulfill your destiny  (those opportunities He sets before you)  or avoid those opportunities placed before you.

The abundant life that Christ promises is only found in living out the destiny He has prepared for us.  If our joy and fulfillment in Christ is subdued,  we may not be walking in the steps He laid out for us from the beginning of time.  A course correction coul be in ORDER!

An Overview of Spiritual Gifts.

1.  The fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22ff)  is the character of Christ bing developed in us.
2.  The Gift of the Spirit (Acts 2:38) is the Spirit himself taking up residence within us.
3.  Spiritual Gifts are abilities given to s and anointed by the Spirt to accomplish the works      God has prepared in adance for each one of us.  (Eph 2:10)
a.  Spiritual Gifts (the manifestation of the Spirit) are given to every believer a the spirit determines.  1 Cor 12:7,11.
b.  Spiritual Gifts are given to buil up the body of Christ and to expand the
 kingdom. 1  Cor. 12:17,  14:12, 26.
c.  We are instructd to desire spiritual gifts, especially those that are most useful for strengthening the Body of Christ.  1 Cor 14:1.

What Are the Gifts of the Spirit?  

Here is a brief list of the Christian Spiritual Gifts most discussed in the Bible.

The Gifts of the Spirit
  • Being an Apostle
  • Being a Pastor
  • Being an Evangelist
  • Teaching
  • Having Great faith
  • Performing miracles
  • The ability to Prophesy
  • The ability to heal
  • Giving wise advice
  • Having a message of special knowledge
  • Discerning whether a message is from the Spirit of God or another spirit
  • Speaking in unknown tongues
  • Interpreting unknown tongues
  • The ability to help others
  • Leadership ability

Building Your Spiritual Muscles


God tells us to "earnestly desire and zealously cultivate" the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corr 12:31-AMP).  This means that it is our responsibility to passionately nurture and grow the gifts that the Holy Spirit plants inside of our spirit.

Think of the Holy Spirit living inside of you like your spiritual muscles. The more you use your spiritual muscles, the stronger they become.


How do you exercise spiritually? By spending time alone with God in prayer and fellowship. The more time you spend in the presence of God, the more He will transform you into the person He created you to be.


You will begin to notice yourself growing spiritually, emotionally, and in every other area of your life.  But, of course, exercising alone doesn't get you as far as Exercising + Proper nutrition.






















What is your proper spiritual nutrition?  The Word of God.  The more you dig into the Word and meditate on it, the more you begin to renew your mind (Rom. 12:2).  


The Holy Spirit will begin to transform you into the Christian you have always wanted to be.  Immersing yourself in God’s Word and His Spirit will allow God to develop the mind of Christ inside of you (1Corr. 2:16). As you do this, your will becomes more in line with God’s will. God will be able to trust you with the power that His Spiritual Gifts have to offer.
